Faith Presbyterian Church - Baytown
Dear Faith Presbyterian family,
It is with gratitude to God that our open sanctuary (in person service) services have been flexible and open to adjustments. Being forced upon by the growing surge of the spread of the coronavirus in our city and county the church Session in a called meeting last WEDNESDAY – JANUARY 6, 2021. After much discernment have decided to SUSPEND our open sanctuary services for the month of January 2021 (January 10, 17, 24 & 31)
These are the basis our reasons as follows:
- The steady and rising number of COVID-19 cases in our City/County
- The recent exposures that happened inside our sanctuary
- The CDC appeal to consider the anticipated surge of cases due to the Christmas holiday.
- The consideration of our area hospital – San Jacinto Methodist Hospital to exceed its limit capacity to care for COVID-19 Cases and other emergency cases.
And most recently the strong appeal regarding the “NEW COVID-19 VARIANT” (B.1.1.7 Variant) now in Harris County. The variant was first identified in the United Kingdom and is believed to be more contagious than more established strains of the coronavirus. Texas is already facing a worsening public health crisis, with a record number of COVID-19 patients in hospitals across the state. Thus, the CDC, The NIH, Infectious Disease Experts, Researchers, and doctors say that the virus must be controlled.
With inspired creativity, we are exploring more ways to stay in connection as we minister to one another, our congregation and community. By doing our part we are giving special attention to those who are considered most vulnerable.
I would like to say THANK YOU for always understanding and rising to the occasion so that our church, Faith Presbyterian Church, can demonstrate what it means to be loving, caring, neighborly and respectful as we continue to witness and testify in the face of a major social need. I recognize that we find ourselves in an unprecedented and ever-evolving global health issue. On one hand, we as followers of Jesus want to dispel fear and panic because of our faith. That is what we are called to do. In this instance, however, suspending open sanctuary worship is not an act of fear, it is recognizing we have a role to play in slowing the rate of the pandemic so that we can, together, defeat this Covid-19 virus.
Again at least the next four Sundays, we will continue to offer a Facebook Live stream worship at 10:30AM and our service will be aired via our 98.1 Faith Radio broadcast. If you choose to be part of our Drive by Church every Sunday morning at the church parking lot. You can also view the recorded worship service via our Facebook page, Church Website, and our Vimeo Faith Baytown services.
If someone asks why Faith Presbyterian Church chose to respond to this health crisis by SUSPENDING our January services, here are helpful responses that we can share:
- Our sanctuary doors may be temporarily closed, but our church is not. (Share how you are continuing to BE the church!)
- We are loving our neighbors by protecting our neighbors. By practicing social distancing, we are protecting those who are the most vulnerable among us.
- We are not being fearful. We are being responsible. We have a role to play in defeating this Corona virus.
- This is what love requires of us in this season of the pandemic. We want to love our neighbors and be respectful and to be faithful witness in the face of a worldwide pandemic.
We all have a role to play so that we can defeat this virus in our communities, this nation and around the world. Thank you for doing your part by staying at home and being safe. Please continue to join me in praying for the doctors, nurses, medical researchers. All the efforts to make the COVID-19 vaccines be available to all and workers who are on the front lines responding to this virus as well as those who are infected.

WHO WE ARE
Our charge is to:
Go out into the world in peace, have courage, hold onto what is good, return no one evil for evil, strengthen the fainthearted, support the weak and help the suffering; honor all people; love and serve the Lord, rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Presbyterian Women have two Women Bible Study groups – Elizabeth Circle and Hannah Circle. Elizabeth members meet the second Wednesday of the month at 9:30 am in the church parlor. Hannah members meet the fourth Thursday evening at 6:00 pm in homes of members. Both groups use the Presbyterian Women Horizon Bible Study lessons. New members are always welcome for this time of study, mission projects, and fellowship.
The Men’s Breakfast meets at 8:00 am the 3rd Saturday of the month. Guest speakers provide information that encourages discussion and questions. Bring your friends and introduce them to the Faith Presbyterian family. (Date may change to accommodate the schedule of the guest speaker.)
The book club gathers in the parlor at 4:30 pm on the second Thursday of each month. For about an hour, the group discusses the author, plot, characters and our reactions to that month’s book choice. An effort is made to sample many different genres.
This group is not only about enjoying literature. It’s about coming together, broadening minds and opening hearts to the causes of the world. Faith Presbyterian believes this is important in deepening our faith experience.
